Salem Witch Trials

When I read the Salem Witch Trials I truly felt as if I were there being accused. I decided not to confess to being a witch and in the story my son and neighbors brought a signed peice of paper that about 40 of them had signed and the judge was going to set me free but then some of the girls claimed they had been hurt by me. When i turned a leg their legs twisted and so forth. I was executed. At the end I turned around and did it again. But this time admitting to the accusations being pinned on me. I as not executed but set free. Some believe that the accused during the salem witch trials were inheritors of land and prime targets to have their land stolen from them. Also people have asked if the people would have been considered, today mentally ill, or if they had any characteristics of a mentally ill and have anything with one another in common. This question was answered like this; "In an average outbreak of witch craft only one or two people were accused. Salem was a massive abberation, so the usual factors were not as much in evidence in 1692. There were several accused who showed a record of past mental illness and also made accusations against others. In general, accusations weren't made against people who showed signs of mental illness, or known to be mentally ill, and the testimony of such people wasn't considered credible." Therefore, not many who were accused really had an excuse to the people doing the accusing. To us, the things they were doing to the accused and also, since the "judges" were just based on their neighbors thoughts and how well their judgments were respected, it would be considered cruel and unjust, but to them it was norm and how we prove that someone is either innocent or guilty might not be seen as "fit" to them. But when I was doing the assigned I felt like I was really there and I was really being accused of being a witch.

Reflection on 1st Quarter English 11

In this quarter in english 11, i have learned plenty. But the one thing that I really enjoyed learning was to show not tell. I learned that if you're writing about fear, how to show the person how scared i was. I have also learned plenty of new big words! Such as, acrimony, or stoic. This has helped increase my vocabulary. Some more things I learned about were compound sentences, fanboys, and how to look deeply into a book and ask important questions, and how to summarize and find a theme of a book.

Discussion of Death Be Not Proud

In the lit circle today, one of the things that we talked about was Colten G.'s sister, Taylor who had a tumor that eventually turned out to be cancer. He could connect to the character, Johnny's family and their feelings as Johnny was dying of cancer. His sister could connect to Johnny himself. Colten discussed the things he had to go through and his sister. We talked about how back then when he died of cancer that there was really no chance for him. But if he would've lived in these days there would have been a better chance at him living then there was for him then. Although Johnny did die, Colten's sister lived through hers.
